Bruce Cochrane

Artist Bio: Bruce Cochrane, RCA

Bruce Alan Cochrane studied ceramics, receiving his BFA at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (1973-1976). He later furthered his studies in the MFA program to continue his skill in pottery at the New York State College of Ceramics in Alfred, NY (1976-1978).

He is a highly skilled potter and apart from his professional practice, has served as a ceramic studio advisor from 1983 to the present. He was Professor and Studio Head at Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Oakville, ON from 1978 to 2010, and later went on to serve as Professor Emeritus since 2011.

Cochrane is the recipient of research and study grants from the Ontario Art Council and has received numerous honors, of which the most prestigious Ð the Governor GeneralÕs Award (Nominee) for 9 consecutive years, Finalist of the Saidye Bronfman Award (1985, 2000), and was granted the Mississauga Visual Artist of the Year. In 2000, he was elected into the Royal Canadian Academy of Ceramics, and also the Royal Academy of Arts in 2003. A gifted and skilled ceramicist, his work has been frequently exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, and his work can be found in both private and public art collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Royal Ontario Museum, The Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Canadian Crafts Museum, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
