Jay Langford

Artist Bio: Jay Langford

Langford creates marine scenes from the point of view of a person on the ocean in order to convey a sense of immediacy. This feeling of directness in important to Langford in preserving the experience of being at sea.
Langford was himself a fisherman, inheritor of a long family tradition of fishing and shipbuilding. This background enriches his depictions of the marine world and the people who live and work on and near the sea. A fishing accident which resulted in two broken arms gave him time to pursue his painting, a lifelong passion, and after which he continued painting and has established himself as a respected marine artist.

He admires such artists as Winslow Homer and Charles Evers for their fidelity in representing the feeling of the maritime environment.
