Scott Croft

Artist Bio: Scott Croft (1911-1980)

Scott Croft was a well-known painter in Nova Scotia, who spent a significant part of his life living and painting in New England. He spent the latter part of his life in Chester Basin, Nova Scotia, where he established a reputation as a painter of rocky landscapes, executed in a heavy impasto-style using a palette knife. He suffered from ill health, and this prevented his traveling to any extent. It also reduced his painting output. Following his death in 1980, his family gathered all of his paintings together and took them off the market. Consequently, the secondary market for the artist’s work is limited to those works which are occasionally offered for sale from estates and private collections. The estimated values reflect current market prices for Scott Croft’s work when it comes onto the market.
