Artist Bio: Mary Pratt (1935-2018)
Mary Pratt was born in Fredericton, NB, in 1935. In 1961 she graduated in Fine Arts from Mount Allison University, where she was taught by Alex Colville, Lawren P. Harris, and Ted Pulford – all teachers who greatly influenced her career as a painter. It was also at Mount Allison that she met her husband, Christopher Pratt – also one of Canada’s most recognized artists. In 1963 they moved to St. Mary’s Bay, Newfoundland, where they worked and raised their four children.
Since the 1970s she has steadily gained national recognition for her paintings. Her works have been exhibited in most major galleries in Canada, reproduced in major magazines, and featured on billboards and book covers.
