Artist Bio: Goula Paneak
Goula Paneak is from the Arctic community of Clyde River, Baffin Island, Nunavut, where he spent the first 14 years of his life living the traditional lifestyle of his ancestors.Ê From there the artist has traveled over the globe ranging from Greenland to the Ukraine.ÊHe works in a variety of traditional subject-matters such as animals of the Arctic tundra, spirits, and hunters. He works in a broad range of subject-matter ranging from caribou horn and Arctic Bay white marble and has a distinct narrative approach to his subjects through carved scenes within the surfaces of his carvings, most notably his caribou horn cribbage boards.
