Artist Bio: Douglas Elliott, OIP (1916-2006)
Born in Woodstock, Ontario, Elliott showed an early aptitude for art, music, and hockey. In his teens he turned down several hockey scholarships in order to study art and music in Canada and the United States. After graduating, he took painting trips in his trailer with his wife Elizabeth. During the summers he painted the coastal landscape of Nova Scotia; in the spring, fall and winter he painted in Quebec, Ontario, and New England. Elliott worked mainly in oils and acrylics but also painted in watercolour. He captured the mood of his subjects with simplicity and the masterful handling of his mediums. He is represented in the Ontario Collection, the Dofasco Collection, Molson Brewery Co. Ltd., and major galleries across Canada, U.S.A., Britain, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, France, Germany, and Australia. Elliott was affiliated with the Ontario Institute of Painters.
