Artist Bio: Frank Drummond Allison (1883-1951)
Born in Saint John, N.B., son of Frank Octavius Allison and Mary Sara Bonsall Kaye, Allison studied painting in Montreal, Woodstock, New York, and in Europe. He lived in Saint John, N.B. but traveled extensively and found his subjects in many countries. Although he painted in a variety of subjects, he had a special interest in old buildings, bridges, cities, towns, and coastal scenes. Allison has exhibited both his oils and watercolours with the Royal Canadian Academy annual exhibitions between 1915 and 1941; at the Montreal Museum of Fine arts Spring Shows between 1915 and 1939. He is represented in the collections of Mount Allison University in Sackville N.B., as well as many private collections in Canada and elsewhere. Allison was a life member of the American Watercolour Society (1933). He died in Saint John at the age of 78.
