Artist Bio: Alan Wylie, AWCS, CIPA, SFCA (b.1938)
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Wylie studies mural design and mosaics at the Glasgow School of Art (B.F.A. 1960). He moved to Nova Scotia in 1967 before settling in British Columbia in 1974. Working in oil, watercolour, acrylic, gouache, pastel, and pencil in a highly realistic style, his subjects include figures, genre, seascapes with ferries, tugboats and wharves, and Glasgow streetscapes.
He is also known for his painted and mosaic murals located in universities, theatres, office buildings, hotels, and hospitals such as Glasgow University, and the Glasgow School of Art; in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Chemainus, Vancouver Island, British Columbia; Vancouver International Airport, Vancouver, British Columbia; and in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Arkansas, California, and Washington in the United States, He was President of the FCA in 1986 – 1987, and is also a member of the Louisiana Watercolour Society, California Watercolour Association, and the Northwest Watercolour Association.
He is married to Janice Robertson and currently lives in Fort Langley, British Columbia. His work is in the Collections of the NSM and the NSAB.
