Bruno Bobak

Artist Bio: Bruno Bobak (1923-2012) RCA, CPE, CSGA, CSPWC

Born in Poland, Bobak came to Canada with his family when he was two years old. He studied painting under Arthur Lismer and under Carl Schaefer. In 1944 he was appointed an official war artist attached to the Canadian Army. Bobak works in an Expressionist style in oil and watercolour, and also works in ink, wood-cuts and textile printing. He taught at the Vancouver School of Art for ten years before becoming an Artist in Residence at the University of New Brunswick in 1960. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Library of Congress in Washington, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, the Canada Council Art Bank, and the Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery.
