Artist Bio: Greg Dow
Greg Dow is a Canadian artist, born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He has lived from coast to coast in Canada, Colorado in the United States, and in Northern France. Greg’s life experiences, both as a child often moving with family and through his extensive travels as an adult, give him a broad perspective on life and art which is apparent in his work. Greg has a degree in anthropology. The cultural insights gained from this education along with a critical study of art history are the driving factors as he explores his artistic voice.
During five decades as a working artist, Greg exhibited and held one-man shows in many galleries (see list of exhibitions) and has also been represented in galleries in Halifax, Nova Scotia (Zwicker’s) and additional galleries in Toronto, Ontario (e.g. Kinsman Robinson). Greg’s art can be found in many private and corporate collections such as Queen’s University, the City of Ottawa, and Sir Sanford Fleming College.
Greg attended one year of fine arts education at York University. Disillusionment during the year, due to the pressure on students to follow the faculty’s vision and the popular trends of the day, led him to concentrate the following years on self-study and attending courses in graphic design programs which taught the formal technical skills which he considered fundamental to his development and lacking in the university environment. Further training and work as a printer and graphic designer extended his understanding of the techniques which are important to his work.
Greg is currently living in Innisfil, Ontario.
