Henri d’Anty

Artist Bio: Henri D’Anty (1910-1998)

D’Anty was born in Belleville (Burgundy) and showed an interest in drawing while still a child. He studied painting at the Acadmie de la Grande Chaumiere and at the Acadmie Julien in Paris. He became a well-known member of the School of Paris group of painters. D’Anty exhibited widely in France and North America. His paintings are characterized by the thick application of paint in a strong gestural manner which conveys strong emotion. He settled in Montmartre and often painted scenes in Paris such as this, showing a barge on the Seine. His paintings are in a number of notable collections including the Musée du Petit Palais, Paris, The Collection of Aga Khan, and the collection of the Shah of Iran.
