Artist Bio: Jack Weldon Humphrey, RCA 1901-1967
Jack Humphrey was one of Canada’s major painters during the middle years of the twentieth century. He studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the National Academy of Design in New York, and under Hans Hoffman in Munich. After the Depression, he became the centre of an active group of artists who included Miller Brittain, Avery Shaw, and Vi Gillet. Humphrey’s work is in many major art collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
