Artist Bio: Jamasie Teevee (1910-1985)
Jamasie Teevee was one of the most prominent of the Inuit artists working in Cape Dorset in the early years. Jamasie began drawing in the early 1960s while living in an Inuit camp on the coastline of southern Baffin Island. He was encouraged by James Houston who had established the printmaking program at Cape Dorset. In the 1960s, Jamasie concentrated primarily on the copper etching technique, ferrying copper plates back and forth between his camp-site and the co-operative. His etchings of this period depicted the traditional Inuit camp and hunting activities. Jamasie is regarded as one of the best of the artists working in Cape Dorset.
