Markoosie Papigatok

Artist Bio: Markoosie Papigatok (b. 1976)

Markoosie began carving as a teenager and is largely self-taught, but learned a lot of his skills by observing his uncle Ashevak Tunnillie , who was a skilled carver. His mother, Komajuk Tunnillie, and grandparents Tayaraq and Qavaroak (Kabubuwa) Tunnillie, were all accomplished carvers in Cape Dorset.

Markoosie’s work predominantly explores animal themes,  particular dancing bears, using power and hand tools.
