William Critchlow Harris

Artist Bio: William Critchlow Harris (1854-1913)

William Critchlow Harris was an English-born Canadian architect noted mainly for his ecclesiastical and domestic projects in Maritime Canada.

He was born near Liverpool, England and later, his family immigrated to Prince Edward Island when William was still a young child. He lived in Prince Edward Island most of his life but spend the predominant years of his career travelling amongst the Maritime provinces. He was influenced by the Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style (for his residential buildings) and Victorian gothic (for his ecclesiastical designs).

His brother was the noted artist Robert Harris.
