John Neville

Artist Bio: John Neville (b. 1952)

John Neville was born in 1952 in Halls Harbour, Nova Scotia. He is a well-established artist who lives and works in his native province and is known for rich, narrative work which chronicles the folklore and everyday life of the local fishermen and their families in Halls Harbour.

In 1972, Neville left his home village to attend the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, to study photography and printmaking. He late went on to study at the Centre Gravure de Contemporaine in Geneva, Switzerland, where he earned his BFA in 1976. Upon graduation, Neville returned to Halls Harbour to set up a printmaking studio, working in intaglio.

In recent years, Neville took up oil painting. Since then, he no longer executed printmaking, leaving behind an exclusive body of prints.
