Artist Bio: Caroline Armington (1875-1939)

Caroline Armington was born in Brampton, Ontario and Studied in Toronto with J.W.L. Foster, and later at the Académie Julian in Paris. While studying in Paris she met and married the Canadian painter Franklin Armington. They returned to Canada in 1901, but by 1905 realized that making a living as an artist in Canada at that time was too difficult, and they returned to Paris where they spent most of their working lives. Caroline was a well-known member of the artistic community in the Latin Quarter in Paris. She was very successful, and the quality of her etchings appealed to many people. Her architectural etchings have beautiful detail and show a carefully controlled line. The British Museum and the New York Public Library have large holdings of her work.
