Artist Bio: Marc-Aurèle De Foy Suzor-Coté, RCA (1869 – 1937)
Suzor-Coté was an important Canadian artist who was born in Arthabaska, Quebec. He studied painting in Paris at l’Ecole des Beaux Arts, the Académie Julian, and at the Académie Colarossi. Following his studies in Paris, he traveled and painted in Europe before returning to Montreal. Suzor- Coté painted in oil, and worked in a variety of media, including pastel, coloured chalk, and pencil. He is also regarded as one of the most important sculptors in Canada, working in bronze. He exhibited widely, including with the Royal Canadian Academy and the Art Association of Montreal. His work is in the collection of the National Gallery, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, the Edmonton Art Gallery and the Vancouver Art Gallery.
