Nancy Stevens was born in Vancouver, and has spent most of her adult life in Atlantic Canada.

Stevens’ art education included study with Arthur Lismer at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and a degree in Fine Arts from Mount Allison University, where Alex Colville was her teacher and mentor. In 1958, Nancy studied at the Academy of Fine Arts In Rome. Before dedicating herself completely to painting full-time in 1970, Stevens worked as a graphic artist for CBC Television, and was also a freelance commercial artist.

Her work is in the collections of the Canada Council Art Bank, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Confederation Centre Art Gallery, Owen’s Art Gallery, and National Capital Commission, Ottawa in addition to a number of major corporations and private collections.

Nancy Stevens has been a past recipient of the important Sobey Art Foundation Award.
