Anton Zeller was a German painter, who lived and worked in Dresden. He worked mainly in oils, and was noted for his handling of genre subject-matter. He was also known as an expert copiest of the old masters, and several examples of his works are in German museums, including the Museum in Darmstadt.
“Portrait of a Lady” was done when he was a young man, shortly after his graduation from art school in Dresden. It is a sensitive portrait of an attractive young woman of high birth.
